Quotes from $80 to $8,000 USD for "the same thing". We explain what actually changes between ranges, what you should demand and how to compare proposals without losing your mind.
If you asked for three quotes and came back with prices between 80 and 8,000 dollars, you are not going mad — and not one of them is necessarily ripping you off. The difference is real, but it is rarely explained well. This guide helps you understand what you are paying for in each range and what you should demand before signing.
The 5 real price ranges (2026)
Treat these as reference points, not exact rates. Every agency models them differently, but the order of magnitude is fairly consistent across the market.
| Project type | Typical range (USD) | Delivery time | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Template / Wix / basic WordPress | $80 – $250 | 3–7 days | Founders just starting out |
| Custom professional landing page | $350 – $700 | 7–15 days | Professionals, services, startups |
| Corporate site (5–10 pages) | $800 – $2,000 | 20–40 days | Established small businesses |
| Ecommerce (catalog + payments) | $1,500 – $4,000 | 30–60 days | Retail, brands with a catalog |
| Custom application / platform | $4,000 – $15,000+ | 60–180 days | Companies with their own workflows |
What should you get in each range?
Low ($80 – $250): "cheap" usually comes with fine print
In this range you are almost always getting something assembled on a Wix, WordPress or Shopify template with minimal cosmetic changes. If that is genuinely what you need (minimum presence, zero time, zero budget), it works. But check: is the domain in your name? Do you have access to the hosting? What does "month 13" cost when the promo ends?
Mid ($350 – $2,000): the sweet spot for most small businesses
This is where real custom development shows up: original design, optimized performance, decent technical SEO, WhatsApp integration, quote forms. What separates a $700 proposal from a $2,000 one in this range: number of pages, complexity of integrations (CRM, payments, bookings), and post-launch support.
High ($2,000+): when the site is central to the business
If your business leans heavily on the digital channel — ecommerce with thousands of products, a platform with user accounts, a complex admin panel, integrations with the ERP or invoicing system you run — investing here makes sense. The difference shows in scalability and in how fast you can change things later.
7 things you should demand in the proposal
- 1Domain and hosting in your name from day one, not the agency’s.
- 2Access to the source code. If they say it "is not handed over", that is a serious red flag.
- 3Guaranteed mobile speed (Lighthouse 90+ is reasonable in 2026).
- 4GA4 + Search Console + conversion tracking configured.
- 5A working form, not a decorative one — test it before paying the final 100%.
- 6SSL included, HTTPS enforced, basic security headers.
- 7A clear plan for maintenance and ongoing costs (hosting, domain, support).
Expensive mistakes we see every week
- ·Paying 100% upfront. The standard is 50% to start, 50% on delivery.
- ·Not signing a contract with clear scope (how many pages, how many revisions).
- ·Forgetting to ask for the Git repository at project close.
- ·Not defining what happens afterwards: who makes changes? at what hourly rate?
- ·Confusing hosting with maintenance. They are different things with different costs.

Why is there such a price gap between quotes?
Because they are rarely quoting the same thing. A $200 proposal is usually a template with cosmetic changes. A $1,500 one is usually custom development with technical SEO, performance and support. Always ask for the breakdown: pages, integrations and post-launch support.
WordPress or custom development?
It depends on the project. WordPress works if you are going to publish a lot of content and your team will edit it. Custom development makes sense when your site has its own workflows (quoting, bookings, integrations) or when performance directly affects your sales.
How much is monthly hosting?
Managed hosting for a small business runs between $12 and $80 USD a month depending on traffic, resources and support level. If someone offers you "under $5 a month with everything included", it is probably shared hosting with no real SLA.
